“In the fading afternoon light” evokes memories close to my heart “he says. Brave Singh’s recent solo show is a continuation of his homage to memories. It tells stories of his childhood, this time, with he and his grandfather as the focal point of each piece. Growing up with no father figure to look up to, it was his Lolo who tried to fill the void.

Old piano, dilapidated chairs and fragments of things and belongings with strong personal attachment bringing vivid flashbacks of his yesterdays. All throughout the years, he spent most of the time in the province. This has greatly brought major influences in the subjects that he paints. Obviously most of it are his memories of the pasts involving his family, his experiences and his environment. Evidently seen in his firsts solo show entitled “Surviving Traces”.

In our life, we all experience season of fall. A time to shed, a time to dry up, a time to let go. This was the time when my beloved mother passed away. It was one of the hardest piece of leaf to let go. But its part of the cycle of life we all encounter. The fallen leaves may pile up, be rotten and eaten up by land, but it has again serve its purpose to provide nutrients for future things to grow. As the memories may stay in our hearts forever also with wisdom that life has taught us.
As the season of fall ends, the time of spring has to start. A time to bloosom new leaf, new beginnings. This part of my life has given me the opportunity to experience how to be with my long lost father. A time to renew bondings where part of it is to reminisce the past. Spring showed me that letting go the past makes me recognize what the present offers and enjoy what she has left me... a time to move on and start a new beginning...

In our everyday lives, we often encounter things or objects that suddenly give us a flashback, a moment to think, a time to reminisce and to reflect. A moment where it will remind us of something that is significant, something that is worth remembering and something to look back to. No matter how remote the memories are, when its relevance comes upfront, we can’t help ourselves and our subconscious mind to recall. Today’s experiences, events and the people around us will be our next recollection sometime, somewhere. It’s inevitable.
